4 Months In Australia And The Journey So Far

by Eden on March 28, 2012

It’s been a while since I updated my blog I know. Truth is though, I’ve been thinking too much about what to write and haven’t really come up with too many ideas. Reason being that this blog is all about my journey to location independence so writing about how Australia has been so far is going a bit off topic. Perhaps I should have made this a travel blog!

Unfortunately I haven’t done zip about my mission to location independence and I’m disappointed in myself, since that was one of the reasons of coming to Australia in the first place. The job I managed to secure upon arrival is a demanding one and it requires patience and focus 24 hours a day and 7 days per week. I do have 7 days off after being on 7 days but that is when I rest up for the following week. I’ve also had no computer here so I use my iPhone or computers in the library to catch up with things.

I’ve also had a hard time coming up with ideas over the past couple months. Business ideas seemed out of reach and I had little inspiration or creativity flowing. I say “seemed” but unfortunately, the ideas are still lacking. At the moment I’m humming and haaring about a game idea I created and went pretty far with 9 years ago (obviously not as far as actually getting it created, but did meet with some top players in the game industry in NZ). It’ll have to be simplified for an iPhone game, but still a good one I reckon. I purchased a magazine a few weeks ago entitled “How To Set Up An Online Business” for $14.95 which was pretty good. Meanwhile I’ll stick to this blog and do my damndest to begin something so at least I have something worthwhile to report back on!

The Positives

Movieworld is definitely a positive!

Since moving from New Zealand to Australia I’ve had several people congratulate me on doing so. I didn’t really understand why people would congratulate me but it seems although it’s something to do with saying I’m going to do something, and doing it. I guess it is a big thing, moving your whole family to another country to start fresh but I can honestly say it was done out of 70% desperation and 30% inspiration. I had my back against the wall in New Zealand. Money was tight, living costs were up, my kids were at the age where they wanted all the cool stuff and I just couldn’t pull through with the goods. We did ok but ok wasn’t good enough. Hence the reason why  I decided to make the move. Besides that I wasn’t totally fulfilled in my employment.

That was the desperation part.

The inspiration part was wanting to explore and travel and try new things. Begin a new adventure so to speak. Now 4 months have past and my wife and kids will be arriving to set off on a new adventure. I’m pretty sure they’re going to love it. Things have pretty much fallen into place for me here so far. It’s quite amazing how, when you step out of your comfort zone and put yourself out there…the universe or God…throws in an invisable safety net and pushes you farther. I think it’s pretty awesome how that works.

I’m looking forward to the next 6 months that’s for sure.

Cheers, all the best and talk soon.
