4 Months In Australia And The Journey So Far

March 28, 2012

It’s been a while since I updated my blog I know. Truth is though, I’ve been thinking too much about what to write and haven’t really come up with too many ideas. Reason being that this blog is all about my journey to location independence so writing about how Australia has been so far is going a bit off topic. Perhaps I should have made this a travel blog! Unfortunately I haven’t done zip about my mission to location independence and I’m disappointed in myself, since that was one of the reasons of coming to Australia in the first place. The job I managed to secure upon arrival is a demanding one and it requires patience and focus 24 hours a day and 7 days per week. I do have 7 days off after being on 7 days but that is when I rest up for the following week. I’ve [...]

Journey To Location Independence: Update

January 18, 2012

Looking back over the past year I can say with complete honesty that I have learned a lot about Internet marketing, being location independent and what it takes to create an awesome lifestyle. I have come a long way and have decided that 2012 will be the year I “crack it”. It’s been a long arduous journey so far and I have made plenty of mistakes along the way. Admittedly I have not been focused lately and I put it down to being busy in Australia working in a new job and getting things set up for when my family move over to be with me. Over the past week I have been thinking about what to write for this post as not only do I want to build up a Blog with a thriving community but of course I want to add value and really help people and to [...]

A New Start In A Foreign Country

November 29, 2011

It’s hard to believe that it’s been two weeks since arriving in Australia because the time has gone so fast. The day I left my wife gave me a book called Aleph, written my Paulo Coelho. I first heard about the book through Brendan Burchard when he interviewed Paulo Coelho several weeks back. (If you haven’t already, you need to read the Alchemist) My interpretation of the Aleph and what I took away from the book was this – take a journey, get out of your comfort zone and travel to places you’ve never been, connect with people. By doing so it adds value to your life, richness and great experiences and of course, growth. Another thing he talks about in the book is to learn to follow the signs… Granted, Australia is hardly an exotic far off land for me since I live across the ditch in New Zealand, [...]

Moving Time Is Fast Approaching

November 14, 2011

It’s been 8 weeks since I handed my resignation in at work and I finshed up last Friday 11th November at a job I’d been in for close to 8 years. Building up to the final days at the job I’d been at so long I felt a little uncertain about the future but looking back, embracing uncertainty was something I wanted from the day I decided that it was time to move on. Thanks to Tim Ferriss and his book The 4-Hour Workweek for that inspiration. In it he talks about “CHANGE”… and how it should be embraced. There were many awesome little tips of wisdom throughout the book such as… “Look at what you’re currently doing and ask yourself, “What would happen if I did the opposite of all the people around me? What will I sacrifice if I continue on this track for 5,10, or 20 years?” It’s definitely [...]

Just What The Hell Is Your Blog About Anyway

November 4, 2011

In a land far away down in the south pacific there was this guy. This guy had a pretty good life, he had a nice family, nice friends and decent job, working with people that respected him, and he respected the people at his job too. He never had any problems with the opposite sex and eventually met a nice girl and they feel in love and had a nice little family. This guy eventually brought a house in a nice little town and things were going along nicely. Trouble was that nice wasn’t enough. This guy used to read a hell of a lot of books. He liked success books, books on spirituality, books on business and entrepreneurship. This guy lived in a nice small town and life was pretty average. It wasn’t highly riveting and it wasn’t boring either…just ok. In the last few years, this guy grew [...]

Why Short Breaks Are Good For Motivation

October 18, 2011

I recently went to Auckland to see some family and check out some Rugby World Cup related activities with my family. I hadn’t been up to Auckland for at least 9 months which is pretty shocking since it’s only 2.5 hours up the road and each time I go there I have a lot of fun. Visiting cities is always fun when you live in a relatively small city of 70,000 for the simple reason there’s more to do! I don’t know if it’s just me or if many people feel the same way or if it depends on the stress levels you have at work but at times…I find it hard to relax enough to let go and go away. But when I’m away I feel great… Being the host country for the Rugby World Cup 2011 surely helps in regards on the fun-o-meter but I got to say, [...]

Top 5 Rut Breaking Hacks

September 24, 2011

Over the past few years I have gotten myself in to some ruts and it’s been hard to get out of them as they seem to build up really slowly over years. That’s right…years!!There have been times when I’m motivated to make a change and take my life to the next level and as soon as I begin to move forward, an obstacle appears. Obstacles can come in different forms Mental blocks Being overwhelmed and tired of trying, nearly giving up Lack of a strategy Here’s an example from my own life and where the rut began and how I kind of got in to the rut I used to drive buses and though I enjoyed meeting people and the people I worked with, I really only took the job on because I needed an income after getting married in another country and returning home with my wife and son. [...]

How I Survived A Weekend Without Internet Access And The Epiphany I Had While Away

August 30, 2011

I live in Rotorua which is the central North Island of New Zealand, my wife and kids and I went to spend time with extended family in a little bach (holiday home) and have a little fun in the snow on the weekend. The place we stayed at is a really small community off the main highway with a total of about 30 holiday homes near Lake Taupo . Only two or three were occupied so it was really quiet. No internet connection, no phone. I admit I was slightly perturbed at the thought of being away from an internet connection for two days especially when I’m trying to build my blog; but as it turned out, it was great fun. This is often the case for me, whenever there is an up and coming event, I often go with the flow till the last minute, and then make feeble attempts [...]

Ever get the feeling that your missing a piece to the puzzle? That no matter what you do nothing ever works out or if it does, it’s not too often? It can be pretty easy to get stuck in this way of thinking and sometimes even talk to yourself over and over in your head for minutes, hours and even days. Perhaps you’re feeling like life is passing you by…you lost out on missed opportunities and basically failed to act for years! Not the nicest place to be that’s for sure! Here’s what you can do… Surround yourself with great positive people Watch a funny movie Go for a walk Get a massive clear pad and write down everything thing on your mind to declutter your brain Write down everything you want to achieve [...]

What’s Holding You Back From Success?

August 7, 2011

I know many people who desire many things in their life and wish to achieve success, they have the know-how can-do attitude but don’t know exactly HOW they intend on achieving this goal. People either don’t have the money, the tools and/or the guidance to begin and so they freeze with inaction and excuses. I know this because I was exactly like that. Actually I’m probably still like that, but in ways I think I am improving. Depending on what you want to achieve I guess depends on the excuse you create right? A lot of it comes down to perception and how you choose to see things. For example, one of my dreams has always been to work from home. I didn’t really give much thought as to HOW this would be achieved so long as it happened. It lead me on a journey in which I have been [...]
