Starting Fresh From The Beginning in 2011 – My Internet Marketing Journey

by Eden on July 18, 2011

Well I don’t think I have ever fleshed out exactly where I stand as far as Internet Marketing goes with regards to my goals and what I hope to achieve online, so I will do my best here from the very beginning. I have tried a series of business opportunities to work from home to free myself up to do things I love and just create a bit of freedom in my life, unfortunately, none of them made me feel passionate or fulfilled. Being determined to succeed, I began researching Internet Marketing quite seriously. And by that I mean a business that utilizes the leverage of the Internet, not necessarily as solely an “Internet Marketer”, if you know what I mean. I started this journey in 2010 when I attended world internet summit in Auckland and along with my wife we enjoyed 4 days of learning with some top Internet Marketers including Brett McFall, Tom Hua, Mark Anastasi, Sean Roach and Ewen Chia to name a few.

Although I had been following some of these people online via email lists and visiting their websites, I hadn’t actually been to anything quite like this so it was an eye opener. Since we had never been to any thing like this before, we were unaware of the “hard sell” at the end of each speakers speech in which they offer their services or coaching to you ranging in prices from $997 to $75000. We never expected to fork out $3,000 USD on a mentor but alas I managed to convince my wife it was worthwhile. The “IM Guru” I chose was Mark Anastasi and no regrets whatsoever. I learned about IM strategies which involved video marketing specifically through using YouTube as a traffic source to your product/service. The couple of coaching calls I had with him helped me change my mind set in a positive empowering way. I figure if you go to a seminar and learn just one thing that can help you in your life then it was worth it.

I really couldn’t believe how much these people earned, it was absolutely amazing to hear their individual success stories and how they had “made it” online. Earning big money online would be great no doubt but for me it’s all about lifestyle. That’s not to say if someone came up to me and said “hey, I’ll help you get to $30,000 per month in your business” I’d turn him/her down…of course I’d be interested.

But during those 4 days, one speaker in particular was very inspiring, and his name is Pat Mesiti. They ran a “best speaker competition” for the duration of the 4 days and not surprisingly, he won. He had some pretty inspirational stories to share with us all and he alone was worth the inexpensive $97 price ticket to the 4 day event. His message? “If you want to be successful, hang out with successful people. If you want to make money, you have to make a plan. Follow your passion, be prepared to make changes in your life, and go for it.”

I have always yearned to be in charge of my own destiny and felt that working from home or living somewhat of a laptop lifestyle was for me. The thought of working from home or anywhere in the world where you have an Internet connection and being able to do earn pretty good money appealed more to me than exchanging my time for the same amount of money week after week. I’ve always enjoyed reading success type books, anything to do with personal development, inspirational type books. Through reading these self development books and participating in various courses and webinars offered by these self help “Gurus”, I am always learning new tools and strategies which I am then able to implement in my life to get the results I am after. Sometimes I fail and other times I succeed.

I have met some pretty great people in the IM circles and can tell you something after seeing Gurus “close up”…they’re normal people! In fact I have met a few IM guys over the past year and I have been blown away by the kindness and approachability of these guys. In part, thanks to Facebook. So anyway, I find myself here laying it all on the line and laying myself bare…along the way I will share the insights I have gained. I am a fan of The Secret so will share things related to this as well…as far as self help goes…I’m a die hard fan. I have read many books and will give you a few recommendations along the way, things that have really added value to my life and helped me succeed. Enjoy the journey.
